The University Writing Center at the University of West Georgia strives to be a student-focused Center. Because of the size and diversity at our institution, we have worked very hard over the past several years to embrace the “University” part of our name and make a specific effort to reach out to all students at all levels. We’ve worked hard to further extend our services to the entire student body and university community—both in an effort to market our services and make it clear that we can help with any writing assignment (both for specific classes and other purposes). Our physical space has undergone a facelift in the last few years—working towards making the space more inviting and comfortable for students. We also have both faculty and graduate tutors work in our Center. While this is a bit unique versus other WCs, our student body responds well to all of our tutors, making it a point of not just coming in one time but coming back for follow-up appointments as they need to. We strive to emphasize to students that writing is a process, and the UWC can be there to help them at any stage as often as they need us.
